Ugh! I've felt about the seatbelt law the way I have about the helmet law in PA. If I want to risk my life, let me be an adult and carry on my life as I see fit. I personally don't think it's right for the government to micromanage average law-abiding citizens safety decisions. Will I be fined in the local mall soon if I choose not to use the handrail on the escalator or (*gasp*) walk around with one shoelace untied?
It does seem rediculous. I like your shoe lace analogy. The helmet law is another controversy here in Michigan. I saw a report from the Highway Safety website that it is illegal to ride a bicycle without a helmet.
